Betty DuBois, the Chief Detective at Packet Detectives, a network performance consulting and training firm based in Atlanta, GA, has been solving mysteries since 1997. Experienced with a range of hardware and software packet capture solutions, Betty captures the right data, in the right place, and at the right time to find the real culprit. She shares her passion for packets as a presenter each year at SharkFest, the Wireshark Developer and User Conference, and is active in the Wireshark community. Using packets to solve crimes against the network and applications is her passion. Teaching others to do the same is her calling.

Betty Dubois has a rich background in network assessments, fault isolations, and deploying network analysis equipment. She has been the Chief Detective at Packet Detectives since January 2000. Specializing in rapid on-site diagnoses, Betty’s expertise ensures organizations receive swift and definitive solutions to network infrastructure challenges, minimizing downtime and optimizing performance.

With an extensive career spanning over two decades, Betty served as a System Engineer at ClearSight Networks Inc. in 2004, supporting the East Coast Sales Manager with presentations, demonstrations, and post-sales support. Her role involved soliciting technical requirements, crafting sales proposals, and integrating customer requests into software development.

Betty’s instructional capabilities shine through roles as a Course Developer at ISS from 1999 to 2000. She also was a Senior Instructor at Network Associates and Network General between 1997 to 1999. Her accomplishments extend beyond her professional roles, with five notable projects showcasing her expertise from 2020 to 2023. These include creating courses for CloudShark Academy, presenting at Wireshark-related conferences like SharkFest, and contributing to publications such as “Using Wireshark Command Line Tools” and “Protocol Deep Dive: DNS” on Pluralsight.

Betty’s commitment to knowledge transfer and optimization is evident in her ongoing projects, like developing courses for CloudShark Academy and preparing talks for SharkFest Europe on Multicast and broadcast Reconnaissance. Her influence in the field is about troubleshooting networks and enriching the community through education and insights.

In addition to her outstanding achievements, Betty’s commitment is further exemplified through her involvement in the Austin Cyber Show session “Mystery Solved: Deep Packet Security Analysis.” This session utilizes Wireshark to demonstrate the critical parameters negotiated during the TLS Handshake.

During the session “Mystery Solved: Deep Packet Security Analysis,” attendees will acquire practical skills in utilizing Wireshark filters to discern hosts employing outdated versions and susceptible cipher suites during the TLS Handshake. This hands-on experience is crucial for cybersecurity professionals aiming to enhance their ability to identify potential vulnerabilities in network communications.

To actively participate, attendees are encouraged to download the latest version of Wireshark. This ensures that they can seamlessly follow along with the practical demonstrations and exercises conducted throughout the session. By doing so, you can gain firsthand insights into the negotiation processes and critical parameters involved in the TLS Handshake, further reinforcing their proficiency in deep packet security analysis.

Betty DuBois continues to be a driving force in the evolution of cybersecurity, leaving an enduring legacy in the pursuit of excellence and innovation in the field.
